[ENG] Chioggia, Southern part of the Venice Lagoon, 5am. Like every day Michele, Cristian and Andrea are on their boat to go diving and fish sea urchins, a delicacy they sell at the wholesale fish market. This is how Andrea who is 14, decided to spend his summer holidays this year, to learn a trade that his grandfather and father have been practicing for decades. Andrea is at a crossroad that will strongly influence his future. Will he continue with the family trade, a hard but rewarding job, or will he choose a different path? Facing his first experiences in the lagoon, Andrea discovers one of his possible futures.
The film was made during Laguna Sud - The Water Beneath Your Feet, a film residency organised by production and distribution company Zalab under the artistic direction of award-winning Director Andrea Segre. The residency was set in Chioggia in Summer 2020, with the intention of exploring the Southern part of the Venice lagoon and how the local community relates to it.
[ITA] Laguna Sud di Venezia, 5 di mattina. Come ogni giorno Michele, Cristian e Andrea si mettono in barca alla ricerca di ricci di mare. Andrea ha deciso di passare così le sue vacanze estive, per imparare un mestiere che suo nonno e suo padre praticano da decenni. Alle prese con le sue prime esperienze in barca, Andrea va alla scoperta di uno dei suoi futuri possibili.
Il film è stato realizzato nell’estate 2020 durante la residenza cinematografica Laguna Sud - L’acqua sotto i piedi - organizzata da Zalab con la direzione artistica di Andrea Segre - destinata a sei giovani registi di cinema del reale con l'intento di esplorare storie legate alla laguna e ai suoi abitanti.
